To get married in Virginia, you must satisfy the following conditions:
- You must qualify for marriage as outlined in the Code of Virginia.
- You must obtain a marriage license from any Clerk of the Circuit Court office in Virginia within 60 days prior to your ceremony and return it to the clerk's office within five business days of the completion of your ceremony. See our Marriage Licenses page for more information.
- The ceremony must take place in Virginia and be performed by ministers whose ordination papers have been filed with the Circuit Court or by a Marriage Commissioner.
