Chief David W. Moody started his passion for the Fire and EMS service in 1990 at the Driver Volunteer Fire Department in Suffolk, VA. Throughout the years he has been mentored by his uncle and retired Fire Chief Steven Moody. David knew at an early age that he had a desire to help people and soon after became a certified Firefighter in 1992 and an EMT in 1993. With a strong eagerness to learn, David was one of the few students in High School that was accepted to attend community college classes at night. He later was certified and practiced Advanced Life Support (ALS) EMS care at the certification level of Shock Trauma Technician and Cardiac Technician. 1998, David was hired with the Navy Regional Mid Atlantic Fire & Emergency Services as a Firefighter / Medic and was assigned to an ALS engine and Heavy Tactical Rescue truck where he later was promoted to Captain. In 2000 David became a National Registered Paramedic and went on to become a regional EMS preceptor, EMT Instructor, Advanced Life Support Coordinator, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Instructor and in 2003 David became certified in Critical Care Paramedicine. In addition to learning David is very passionate about helping others grow in their profession and is excited to help others learn and as such he became a Fire / EMS instructor on staff at the Southside Regional Fire Academy (SRFA) in Portsmouth, VA. David holds numerous certifications in Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, EMS, Emergency Management, Homeland Security, and Leadership. In 2004 David was hired to be the first full-time County Fire & Rescue Chief and currently serves as Local Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator per state law and is currently appointed to the Rappahannock Regional EMS Council as a Board member representing King George County. David has earned an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Associate’s Degree in Emergency Medical Services – Paramedicine, Bachelor’s Degree Fire Administration, a graduate from the prestigious United States Fire Administration’s - National Fire Academy’s – Executive Fire Officer’s Program (EFO), and a graduate from Cornell University’s Executive Leadership program. Further, Chief Moody is a recipient of the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing. David is married to his wife Cristy and they have two children (Nathan and Natalie). He and his family reside in King George County.
