Commonwealth's Attorney

Responsibilities

The Commonwealth Attorney's Office annually prosecutes crimes committed in King George County. The Commonwealth Attorney Office is staffed by one full time, elected Commonwealth's Attorney (Constitutional Officer); one full time Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, one full time Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, two full time Administrative Assistants, and one Victim/Witness coordinator/Paralegal.

Funding is through the Commonwealth, County and Federal grants. The Commonwealth Attorney's Office also maintains an active Internship Program providing real-world experience to those interested in law and much needed help to our Office.

Mission

The Commonwealth Attorney's Office is here to serve you and to keep our community safe. We will use the most effective and up-to-date technology and courtroom procedures to ensure that all crimes supported by the law and evidence are successfully prosecuted. In the last eight years the Commonwealth Attorney's Office has successfully prosecuted thousands of crimes and obtained some of the largest sentences in Virginia history, in cases ranging from homicide, drug distribution, sex crimes and property crime.

Goals

The successful prosecution of all persons committing crimes in King George County. Providing respectful and appropriate treatment and assistance to victims of and witnesses to crime. Participation and creation of programs to prevent crime and to inform the public about the law.
