1. What are the hours of operation for the King George Sheriff's Office?

The Administrative/Records Office is open for business, Monday through  Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The 911 Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Sheriff's Office may be contacted at 540-775-2049.

The magistrate's office is located at our office (10445 Government Center Blvd., King George, VA 22485). You may contact them via phone at (540) 775-7820 or via fax at (540) 775-8098. It is always advised to call ahead of your visit, as there may not always be a magistrate on duty to assist you in the office. 

3. How do I commend a member of the Sheriff's Office?

The Sheriff always enjoys getting feedback from citizens, especially when an employee has performed exceptionally. If you would like to recognize an officer or other employee for a job well done, please feel free to inform the Sheriff using whatever method of correspondence is most convenient. 4. How do I make a complaint about a member of the Sheriff's Office?

If you wish to make a complaint about the actions of a deputy or any aspect of deputy operations, please:

  • Come to the Sheriff’s Office and tell any employee that you want to make a complaint; or
  • Call the Sheriff’s Office and tell the person answering the phone that you want to make a complaint; or
  • Write your complaint and mail it to the Sheriff (10445 Government Center Blvd., King George, VA 22485)
  • Fill out our form and email it to the Sheriff
  1. A staff member will assist you in filling out a Report of Complaint against Sheriff’s Personnel form, if desired. This form asks you to identify yourself and then to give specific details about your complaint.
  2. Your complaint will then be investigated.  You may be contacted and asked additional questions about your complaint.
  3. If it is going to take a long time to investigate your complaint, you will receive a letter telling you approximately when you may expect a reply.
  4. When your complaint has been investigated, you will be contacted with a disposition.

The following are typical reasons you should call Animal Control:

  • All found animals are to be reported as soon as possible. Animal Control can often reunite a lost animal with its owner by checking the division's lost and found log.
  • If you need to give up your pet, call King George Animal Control. It is against the law to abandon an animal. Pets cannot survive on their own. Many animals are turning up loose or abandoned in remote areas. 
  • If you find an injured animal, call the shelter or the Sheriff's Office immediately. An officer can be dispatched 24 hours a day for emergencies—just dial 911.

5. How do I get a copy of my accident report?

Copies of reportable accidents can be obtained in person, by written request or faxed, if the number is local, from the Administrative/Records Office. There is a nominal fee for this service.

6. I need a local King George criminal records check to apply for a job, apartment, etc.; what do I need to do?

A local records check of KG Sheriff's Office records ONLY may be obtained with a picture identification at no charge at the Administrative/Records Office.

6. When can I get my fingerprinting done?

Upon availability, this service is provided in our office (10445 Government Center Boulevard, King George, VA 22485) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. through 1 p.m.

7. How do I obtain a copy of an incident report to provide to my insurance company?

To obtain a copy of an incident report (burglary, larceny, destruction of property, etc) that happened at your home or business, submit a written or email request to the Administrative/Records Office at jcarpenter@co.kinggeorge.state.va.us. Your request should contain the incident details (date, time, incident/case number, etc). You may also request in person with a picture identification.  There is a nominal fee for this service.

8. How do I obtain a concealed weapon permit?

Concealed weapon application and fees are handled through the KG County Circuit Court Clerk's Office. For more info, view the Virginia State Police website.

9. What are the inspection requirements? If my vehicle is rejected, can I drive it until I get it fixed?

10. How can I find out how much tint and which windows can be tinted on my vehicle?

Please view the Code of Virginia: 46.2-1052. Tinting films, signs, decals, and stickers on windshields, etc.; penalties.

11. Is it illegal to hang objects from my rear-view mirror?
