Community Development administers, maintains, and enforces federal, state, and local zoning laws, regulations, and ordinances. Additionally, it facilitates the residential, commercial, and industrial development process in King George County to ensure and protect the health, safety, and welfare of residents through the administration of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
Functions include investigation of complaints regarding compliance with zoning laws and policies; administration of building permits, plan reviews, site construction, and land development; and inspection of all active construction sites from pre-construction to project completion and certificate of occupancy.
Community Development provides direct support to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Local Board of Building and Fire Code Appeals, and Wetlands Board, as well as upholds the Comprehensive Plan which is reviewed and adopted every five years.
